Safety

Fluids   Stretching    Medical Condition   Sparring    Safety Equipment     Instructors

Safety is for everyone
No one comes to training just to go away hurt. At all times, use common sense.

If you have any medical conditions which may effect your training, or the training of other students, you are obligated to tell your instructor prior to the commencement of training. If you have a first aid certificate, also please notify your instructor.

Before class, help yourself and other students, check the floor for things like pins or splinters. If necessary, find a broom and sweep it clear.

Take a drink with you to training.  During training you will dehydrate, especially during the summer months, so be prepared for it by keeping your fluids up.

If an exercise or a stretch looks 'risky', then it probably is. This doesn't necessarily mean don't do it, but that due care and attention must be applied. If you are unsure about anything, ask a higher rank or the instructor.

During sparring, work with your partner(s), according to the lower rank. All black belts should know that coloured belts are not toys to be played with. We all work together to sharpen each others skills, not kill each other.

Safety Equipment

If you do not have any hand mits or shin-and-instep guards, then the only sparring you will participate in is non-contact sparring.

If you have safety gear, then you may participate in touch- or semi-contact sparring.

I encourage students to purchase a mouth guard and a groin guard, but these are optional.

Instructors
If an instructor tells you not to do something, and you persist in doing it, then the instructor has performed their legal and moral duty of care and are not liable for any misconduct or personal injury incurred by the perpetrator. If there is a risk to other students as a result, the instructor will stop the class and deal with the risk where possible.
